Republicans Split Over House District 38

Two caucuses held for Republicans in Indiana House District 38 resulted in a split decision Wednesday at a crowded Neighborhood Center. In the first caucus that was intended to fill Jim Buck's position as House representative, Howard County resident Heath Van Natter came out victorious. However, in a second caucus to determine who would replace Buck on the November ballot, Republicans chose Clinton County Auditor Jacque Clements. Read more...

Vandenburgh Helps Crown Point See Needed Transportation Improvements Sooner

Traffic-clogged Broadway in Crown Point could see relief as early as late this year or early 2009, local elected officials said Thursday. Concerned about the flow of traffic and safety on Broadway between 93rd and 109th streets, state Rep. Shelli VanDenburgh, D-Crown Point, and Mayor David Uran began talks last year regarding how to improve the traffic on the road before its 2012 scheduled expansion by the Indiana Department of Transportation. Shelli Vandenburgh Discusses State's $1.5 Million "Green" Grant

A new, green, high-tech method of applying powder paint to metal coils -- like those used in the construction, automotive, appliance and metal furniture industries -- is getting a $1.5 million boost from the state.
State Rep. Shelli VanDenburgh, D-Crown Point, said Friday that the State Budget Committee released the grant earlier in the day in Valparaiso.

Legislation Brings Jobs to Anderson

An Indiana horse track is in a race to the wire to complete their new casino.
The scheduled opening date for Hoosier Park Racing and Casino in Anderson is June 2, when 2,000 electronic gaming devices, including a virtual reality blackjack table, which will make the facility much more than a warehouse with slot machines. "It means economic development and 500 jobs for the community. That is what it means," said State Rep. Scott Reske (D-Anderson).

VanDenburgh Sails Through Primary Looks To November

Incumbent District 19 State Rep. Rochelle "Shelli" VanDenburgh trounced her Democratic opponent Dennis Meeks 3 to 1 in an unofficial vote tally in Tuesday's primary.

"In my mind I'm already running our fall race," VanDenburgh said at party headquarters in Crown Point. "Whoever my opponent is, he'll have to work hard. I'm looking forward to getting the next one over and getting back to the Statehouse. It's important to retain the seat for the Democrats so we stay in the majority of the House."

Myron Sutton's Primary Results Indicate Good Standing for November

With Democrat ballots scoring favorably for voters in this year's primary, even those Republican candidates with opponents came up on the short end as far votes...Democratic State Representative District 15 candidate Myron Sutton's number of 1,436 to incumbent Republican Don Lehe's 1,010.

Nancy Michael Wins Democrat Primary

From the Brazil Times:

Clay County voters voiced their opinions Tuesday evening.

The Indiana Primary was conducted Tuesday, and several state positions were up for grabs.

Even though Nancy Michael was unable to grab the attention of Clay County voters, she won the Democratic Primary for State Representative District 44 over Richard Thompson.

However, Thompson defeated Michael in Clay County, tallying 1,832 votes to Michael's 1,809.
