Rep. Pelath to Lead Study on Illegal Immigration

Democratic state Rep. Scott Pelath of Michigan City will help lead a legislative committee's study of illegal immigration in Indiana.
Lawmakers considered legislation last session that was aimed at penalizing employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. But the issue was contentious and legislators failed to reach a compromise.
Pelath says on no other issue are the gaps between political rhetoric, strong emotions and reliable information more apparent. But he says most Americans sense that the national immigration system isn't serving anyone very well. Read more...

Reske Helps Transfer State Land to Ease Burden on Consumers

From The Herald Bulletin, Pendleton, IN:

A large portion of land in southern Madison County will be transferred from the state to the Fall Creek Regional Waste District.

State Rep. Scott Reske, D-District 37, arranged for the transfer after he learned of the possible sale of the land, which sits adjacent to the district treatment center. The Department of Correction declared the land to be surplus, and the state was going to sell it at auction. However, the department neglected to contact other government agencies involved, in this case the township, to see if they needed the land. Read more...
